Welcome back to our final term of the year, and our final history topic: Groovy Greeks!

We are all eager to get going with this topic, and I have been amazed with how much some of our class already know about this fascinating period of ancient history! Today we have whetted our appetite by reading some of the more famous Greek myths, and got a flavour of Ancient Greek society and their beliefs. We will continue this work next week when we create our own mythical beasts for our hero Perseus to defeat!

In maths we have (finally!) wrapped-up our work on measures, and are now looking at the properties of shapes, which is all linking rather nicely to our Groovy Greek mathematicians (who knew triangles were so ... Greek!). While in PE, we have started to develop our athletics skills and learned about which events were invented by the original Olympians of Ancient Greece.

Year 6 have been working hard this week for the final push towards SATs - it's going to be a tough few weeks, but their attitude and determination to do well is just brilliant to see. They now have a SATs week timetable and 'Treats' letter in their planners (and parents should also have been emailed a copy from the office). Please note the invitation for SATs breakfast during the assessment week. We would love all Year 6 to be there, so please pop in/ email me if you foresee any issues and we can hopefully work somethinng out.

And finally, we are busy creating our class roleplay area, "Poseidon's Bargain Prices -  Seaside Tat Shop!" at the back of our classroom. If you have any loose change in euros, please may we have it to fill our till! Thank you.

Have a good weekend,

Mrs Jarvis

Welcome back everyone!

It was great to see everyone's smiling faces back on Monday morning ready for the last term in year 5!

This week we have carried on with our Watery World topic so we could finish all the ourstanding pieces of work. We completed our Linton & Burnsall work - writing a recount of our trip; interpreting the data we collected from the river study and producing a graph; and getting to grips with the human and physical geography of Burnsall. I'm happy to say that we are now ready to move on to the Groovy Greeks!

We did start today in our English lesson by looking at some Greek myths and trying to understand any common themes within them. We read Perseus and the Minotaur together and had a good think about the structure of the story and then compared that to other myths to see if we could find common themes. The class were very enthusiastic about this which gives me high hopes for the rest of the topic.

We hope you all have a lovely weekend - maybe this weekend will be the one where it stops raining!

Happy Easter Everyone!

We've made it to the end of term - well done everyone. We have all worked super hard this term and have all tried our best. We have loved out underground topic and especially learning about the Great fire of London.

Kingfisher made me proud today at cross country where we all ran with all our might. I can confirm it was rather tough!

Have a great break and happy Easter.

Thank you ☺️
