Ducklings & Goslings

Welcome to Foundation. We have two reception classes - Ducklings and Goslings. The teacher of the Duckling Class is Miss Macey. The Gosling Class teacher is Miss Dempster. Other adults within our Foundation team are Mrs Cooke, Mrs Nutton, Miss Barker, Mrs Dal Molin, Mrs Brown and Miss Liddemore. Please speak to any member of our team if you have any questions or concerns. We feel very lucky to be part of your child's first school year, enabling them to begin their learning journey and settle into school life.

We have an amazing indoor room with lots of provision areas that are enhanced with each theme we deliver. Our outdoor area is an exciting learning environment. We use this area daily to engage in a range of learning opportunities, whatever the weather!

We follow the children’s interests, but popular themes are ‘All About Me’, 'Toys', ‘Superheroes and People Who Help Us’, ‘Animals’ and ‘Growing Plants.’ We also enjoy learning and experiencing the different seasons and celebrations through the year, such as Diwali, Chinese New Year, Christmas and Easter.

Both classes currently have their PE day on a Wednesday. Please can your child come in on a Wednesday wearing their PE kit.

Please see our weekly newsletters for further information and important dates.

The main event this week has been our fabulous concert: Fleeced!  The children have worked so hard to sing, sign and get into their charatcers, and it has been brilliant to see their confidence grow. If you came along, I'm sure you'll agree they all did so well, in spite of the nerves! Well done to everyone who took part!

Next week is a hectic one, so here are a few reminders:

Reports will be sent home on Monday evening, including the SATs results for Year 6.

Year 6 will received their leavers hoodies and autograph books.

On Wednesday, Transition Day, Year 5 children will spend the day with their new class teacher, Mrs Whetstone.

And on Friday, Year 6 will have their Leavers' concert rehearsal in the morning, while in the afternoon, they will have their Leavers' party/BBQ (letter to follow next week).

Here's to a lovely last full week at school!

Have a great weekend,

Mrs Jarvis

We have had a very busy week!

We started off the week watching UKS2 concent 'Fleeced.' The children cheered on UKS2 and enjoyed watching the show. We then completed not one but two science experiments this week. We look at water transportation and the function of leaves on plants.

We finished the week with taking our walk around the local area. We walked to Littlemoor Green and the olf Rawdon Littlemoor School. We also went to Little London to discovery why some of the street names are named the way they are. Also we had a look at the stain glass window that showed the history of our area, the clothing and wool trade.

Next Tuesday we are going to have our DT day where we are going to make our CAMHS toys.

Next week:

Monday: Reports home

Wednesday: Morning walk to Quakers Meeting House. Transition in the afternoon.

Friday: Golden ticket spelling test. Books home. Please bring in a carrier bag.

Have a good weekend!

Wow - it may be coming up to the end of term but the children are still putting in some hard graft!

In Maths, we have been looking at a number of different tables and interpreting the information. This has proved tricky at times (particularly with the 2 way tables) so hopefullythe homework this week will help consolidate our learning.

In English, we have been getting to grips with hyperbole and superlatives ready to write a persuasive leaflet for a Greek Spa. This is based on the Spa afternoon we enjoyed in the sun a couple of weeks ago.

Our Science lesson this week saw us understanding mixtures and how to separate them. The class made a mixture of sand, salt, gravel and paperclips and worked out the correct order in which to separate them. I was impressed with how quickly this was worked out and a successful investigation was carried out.

In amongst all this we obviously had our 2 performances which, I think you'll agree, were fantastic The whole of UKS2 really put their all into the shows and they were a real success because of this.

Special mention goes to those children from Blackbird Class who were involved in the guitar assembly today - it was lovely to watch and see their other talents on display.

We hope you have a lovely weekend - hopefully its a winning one for England!
