Ducklings & Goslings

Welcome to Foundation. We have two reception classes - Ducklings and Goslings. The teacher of the Duckling Class is Miss Macey. The Gosling Class teacher is Miss Dempster. Other adults within our Foundation team are Mrs Cooke, Mrs Nutton and Miss Hayward. Please speak to any member of our team if you have any questions or concerns. We feel very lucky to be part of your child's first school year, enabling them to begin their learning journey and settle into school life.

We have an amazing indoor room with lots of provision areas that are enhanced with each theme we deliver. Our outdoor area is an exciting learning environment. We use this area daily to engage in a range of learning opportunities, whatever the weather!

We follow the children’s interests but popular themes are ‘All About Me’, 'Toys', ‘Superheroes and People Who Help Us’, ‘Animals’ and ‘Growing Plants.’ We also enjoy learning and experiencing the different seasons and celebrations through the year, such as Diwali, Chinese New Year, Christmas and Easter.

Both classes currently have their PE day on a Friday. Please can your child come in on a Friday wearing their PE kit.

Please see our weekly newsletters for further information and important dates.

Happy Easter!

Happy Easter!

What a busy week with all our lovely Easter activities! The children have enjoyed making Easter cards, performing in our Easter Bonnet Parade and hunting for Easter eggs around school.

Children also enjoyed a visit from the dentists. The dentists were very impressed with the children's knowledge of how to keep our teeth clean and healthy.

When we come back, our first week on our 'Growth' topic will focus on the story of Jack and the Beanstalk. We are hoping to change our role play to a Garden Centre - if you have any spare seed packets (full or empty), plant pots or anything else that we could use, we would be really grateful.

We hope you all have a lovely Easter and eat lots of chocolate!

See you on Monday 17th.

Take care,

Miss Macey and Miss Dempster

Easter Bonnet Parade and Morning Routine
24/03/2023 12:50 PM

The Foundation team are always here to help you and if you have any questions or concerns we will always do our very best to support you. We do need to ask though that you do this after school rather than before school. If you have an urgent message regarding your child or want to inform us about a different person collecting them that day, then it is absolutely fine to catch one of us on a morning before school. However if you have a more in depth issue or query please could you either come and speak to us after school or drop by/email the office and they will pass a message to us. If you would like us to give you a call back please let the office know the reason so we know how urgent the call is. It is important that the children have a smooth start to the school day and have the Foundation teachers sat with them for this and are not outside for an extended time. Thank you very much for your help with this.

Just a reminder that next Tuesday is our Easter Bonnet Parade! Please can children arrive with their bonnets in the morning, then you are welcome to come and watch the Parade which starts at 2.30pm. The hall doors will be open before for you to enter, please don't come via the classroom.

We hope you have a lovely weekend.

Spring has Sprung!
17/03/2023 3:04 PM

Spring has arrived in Foundation! We have enjoyed our last week learning about Superheroes and are more than ready to begin to learn about Spring and Easter.

Next week the children will be making chocolate Easter nests, learning about the changes that happen to chocolate when it's heated and then cooled.

We will also be learning about the Easter story and how Christians celebrate Easter.

We hope you have a lovely weekend and enjoy noticing the signs of Spring!

Winter Investigation!
13/01/2023 12:00 AM
Winter Investigation!

As part of our Winter topic, this week the children have investigated different ways to solve a problem. They heard some muffled cries of help in the classroom and found animals trapped in blocks of ice! They generated a list of ideas to safely melt the ice and then were able to try these ideas out. The animals were all safely rescued with the use of salt, warm water and determination! We discussed what the ice had turned into after warming up in the classroom, and what could happen to the ice if we left in outside overnight.

Next week we are learning all about Chinese New Year. the children will learn to say Kung Hey Fat Choy, which means Happy New Year! They will learn all about the animal race and how the new year is celebrated throughout the world. They will also have chance to try noodles using chopsticks.

We hope you have a lovely weekend.

Welcome back!
6/01/2023 12:00 AM

Happy new year and a warm welcome back to school! We have missed everyone so much and have loved seeing your smiling faces this week. We are so impressed with all the children for their fantastic attitude and getting back into the swing of things after the holiday.

This week we have enjoyed learning about our new topic all about Winter and are looking forward to continuing with this next week.

We want to say again a huge thank you for your cards, gifts and lovely words at Christmas time - we are really grateful and lucky to teach your children. They are the best gift of all!

Have a lovely weekend. See you on Monday,

Miss Dempster and Miss Macey

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!
16/12/2022 12:00 AM

We are ever so proud of all the children for completing their very first term of school! They have come so far from their first day and deserve a well-earned rest over the holidays. We would love to take this opportunity to thank you all for our beautiful gifts and cards. We are so grateful and it has been a pleasure getting to know your children over the past few months.

In January we will begin the term with a Winter topic, before moving onto Real Life Superheroes.

We hope you all have a lovely Christmas with your families and we look forward to seeing you in the New Year!

A Fantastic Christmas Performance!
9/12/2022 12:00 AM

A huge well done to all the Ducklings and Goslings for their amazing Christmas performance on Tuesday. We are so proud of them for singing so beautifully and putting on a great show, we hope you loved it too.

Monday is our Christmas party day. Our party is in the afternoon but please could your child come for the full day in their party clothes. Last Friday we put little slips in bookbags to request a donation of party food. Please could you send this in on Monday morning. Thank you.

We hope you have a lovely weekend!

Beebot fun!
2/12/2022 12:00 AM

This week our toy topic has focused on construction and moving toys. All the children have loved using remote controlled cars and our little beebots - robots that look like bees! The children have practised using directional language and we will be sending photos of this on Tapestry.

We borrowed the beebots from KS1 and all the children had a go at independently writing a letter to ask to borrow them. We were very impressed with their letters and Miss Stevens replied saying we could use them!

Next week we move onto thinking more about Christmas. To encourage their writing skills, children have the opportunity to write letters to Santa and post them in our class postbox!

We hope you have a lovely weekend.
