Ducklings & Goslings

Welcome to Foundation. We have two reception classes - Ducklings and Goslings. The teacher of the Duckling Class is Miss Macey. The Gosling Class teacher is Miss Dempster. Other adults within our Foundation team are Mrs Cooke, Mrs Nutton and Miss Hayward. Please speak to any member of our team if you have any questions or concerns. We feel very lucky to be part of your child's first school year, enabling them to begin their learning journey and settle into school life.

We have an amazing indoor room with lots of provision areas that are enhanced with each theme we deliver. Our outdoor area is an exciting learning environment. We use this area daily to engage in a range of learning opportunities, whatever the weather!

We follow the children’s interests but popular themes are ‘All About Me’, 'Toys', ‘Superheroes and People Who Help Us’, ‘Animals’ and ‘Growing Plants.’ We also enjoy learning and experiencing the different seasons and celebrations through the year, such as Diwali, Chinese New Year, Christmas and Easter.

Both classes currently have their PE day on a Friday. Please can your child come in on a Friday wearing their PE kit.

Please see our weekly newsletters for further information and important dates.

In Kestrel class this week we have been learning about the expansion of the Roman Empire and how they were able to conquer such vast areas so quickly. We learned that it was all down to excellent planning and organisation (skills we are also trying to develop in class to achieve our class target!!).

In PE, we have been continuing to develop our gymnastics skills and, instead of rugby today, we have enjoyed displaying our footballing skills during our Inter House competition. While football is not everyone's cup of tea, it was so heart-warming to see all of the children giving the skills tasks their best shot, supporting each other no matter which House Team they are part of, and having fun. Well done to those children who were selected by the Year 6 House Captains to play as part of the match teams: they showed a real competitive spirit with outstanding sportsmanship.

Next week it is our Harvest Curriculum week in school, on the theme of 'herbs and spices'. We will link this to our topic and be cooking a traditional Roman lentil dish, giving ourselves a taste of what the ancient Romans would have eaten!

A reminder also for next week that it is individual photos on Wednesday.

Have a lovely weekend!

Another busy week we have had!

In English, we were able to see the children fabulous acting skills when we acted out the story of Isis and Osiris. In English, we have been practising our noun phrase sentences to add more detail into our writing.

It has been a busy and exciting day in school today as it was our first Interhouse of the year being football. The children showed super sportsmanship and cheered on their team mates. Overall, the winner was FOUNTAINS! Well done to everyone though as you gave it your all!

Today Christmas came early for us and the children completed their Christmas card design. They will be sent off soon and after the half term you will recieve a form if you would like to purchase anything.

Have a lovely weekend!

Peacock class show off their acting skills
29/09/2023 3:40 PM

Fun was had by all in Peacocks as we used our voices and acting talents to portray the story and emotions of ancient Egyptian gods and mummification. Each group put together and performed their scene to the class and shared lots of helpful advice to each other.

In science, we have been exploring how we see and how to stay safe in the dark. In history, we have been creating an epic timeline throughout the ancient Egyptian era and learning about how to order BC and AD dates (or CE and BCE). Maths was column addition and everyone in Peacocks has worked hard to grasp the new concept for year three and have a refresh for year four. Homework is based on this for extra practise and I will now start to ask questions daily on column addition.

In outdoor P.E. , we have been learning rugby skills.

Today we had our amazing interhouse football event. Everyone had great fun and and gave their best, showing great sportsmanship skills and cheering each other on.

Next week it is individual photos on Wednesday. The children will be in P.E. kits as it is a P.E. day.
