Rumble in the Jungle where we will explore the rainforest and examine the history of the Mayans.
Victorian Rawdon where we will study the history of our local area.
Each topic includes either a class visit or a workshop to excite and engage the children, as well as to enhance the learning experience.
Swimming and outdoor P.E is on Wednesday. Children need to arrive dressed for PE on this day.
Homework is being given out on Friday this year and needs to be returned on Tuesday mornings with house points awarded for effort and accuracy. Children are expected to access times table rockstars 3x per week at home.
Please keep practising your spellings and time tables (plus the linked division facts), as it will support your learning in school.

Sorry for the late notice - please can all year 4 children come to school wearing their PE kits tomorrow. We have a skipping workshop in the morning! Thanks.
We have been in awe across LKS2 with the incredible projects that the children have brought in this week. We have taken part in quizzes, tasted cake and admired art work. The amount of effort the children have put in and their ability to present the new information to the rest of their classes has been admirable. A big thank you to all of the children as well as parents and guardians for your on going support.
This morning LKS2 took part in the Be Internet Legends national assembly run by Google.
The focus was on Online Safety and Internet Awareness.
They took part with great ideas and enthusiasm and we even got a shout out by the hosts for some great answers.

We had a fantastic time competing in our interhouse football tournament today! All the children put their best effort in and showed great sportsmanship.
We also practised our stippling technique using pencils in art. We are going to use this skill to shade in scarab beetles and we will mix colours to design other Egyptian animals.
Next week
Tuesday: homework books and diaries collected in
Wednesday: swimming and outdoor PE
Friday: spelling test
This week we explored an Egyptian tomb! We discovered it was filled with fascinating artefacts. We had to predict what the artefact might have been used for in Ancient Egyptian society.
We also had fun learning the story of Isis and Osiris in our English lessons. We were given a scene to act out with our classmates and we performed them today in the meadow.
Next week:
Tuesday: homework and homework diaries collected
Wednesday: swimming and outdoor PE
Friday: interhouse football! Please come to school in PE kits with a change of footwear for if it is muddy. No studs!
We have had a fantastic first week in nightingales class! We have spent time getting to know each other, started our art and history topics, and made a fantastic start to year 4.
This afternoon, we have experimented with creating different tones by mixing colours and adding white. This skill will support us when we start our pointillism topic later in the half term.
Next week, we have our Ancient Egypt workshop on Monday.
Homework books and homework diaries are collected on a Tuesday.
Swimming starts on Wednesday - please send your child to school with their swimming costume on under their PE kits and a bag with their towel and underwear in to change into after.
Our PE day is also a Wednesday.
There will be a spelling test on Friday.
Any questions, please see us at the door at the end of the day!
Just a quick note to say thank you to all parents and carers for your support this year - I have had a lovely first year at Littlemoor. Nightingales, you have been amazing; such a kind, well behaved and determined class, I feel very lucky to have taught you this year.
We made it! Happy summer!
We had a brilliant trip to Stump Cross Caverns yesterday! We explored the caves with a guide who taught us all about stalactites, stalagmites and the different fossils that had been discovered. We found where Geoff Workman had stayed for 105 days setting a world record for the time spent underground in isolation. We also used a UV torch to examine the calcite that is deposited by the rain.
After having lunch, we drove to Coldstone Cut where we enjoyed a wet walk up the hill and enjoyed looking at and learning about the Limestone quarry.
The children were so well behaved all day and asked insightful questions. What a brilliant trip it was!
Over the last couple of weeks, we have designed, created and decorated our own teapots! Our teapots had to be functional with a handle, spout and lid. We looked at how best to attach different parts and practised different techniques like scoring and hatching. Unfortunately, the clay didn't dry very well (or rather too well) in the hot weather and some have ended up in a few pieces, but we all enjoyed the making and decorating process!
We have a busy week next week:
Tuesday - school trip to Stump Cross! Children to wear school PE kits with a jumper so they are warm in the caves. Trainers on their feet NOT sandals please. They can bring ÂŁ2 - ÂŁ4 to spend in the gift shop. Please bring a packed lunch unless one has been preordered with the office.
Wednesday - swimming, PE and a dance workshop!
Thursday - sports day!
We have had a food filled week this week! We started the week by baking Yorkshire puddings and rhubarb crumble - both were delicious! We also designed our own Yorkshire pudding meal ideas, with creations such as the 'Yorkshire pudding trifle' and the 'Yorkshire pudding pizza' being put forward. We also spent an afternoon learning about and tasting different Yorkshire foods including Parkin, Yorkshire tea and Pontefract cakes.
Next week:
We still need junk modelling materials to create our nightlights! Thank you for everything that has been brought in so far.
At swimming on Wednesday, we have a life saving session as it is drowning prevention week. Children should come to school wearing their swimming costume under their uniform as normal and bring with them a pair of pyjamas or shorts and a T-shirt. NO onesies!
Projects are due in on Monday.
This afternoon we have created our final stop motion films. We created models out of plasticine and used the app 'I can animate' to take frame by frame pictures. We have really enjoyed this computing unit of work!
A few reminders:
Next week, children we be creating a nightlight in DT - we need cardboard boxes and junk modelling materials to make this possible! Please raid your recycling and send children in with clean, usable materials. We can store these in the classroom until they are needed.
Our PE sessions now both happen on Wednesday - we will have swimming and an outdoor PE lesson on this day.
Projects are due in Monday 19th June - again feel free to send these in whenever they're complete.
This week, we created our own switches in science using materials we knew were conductors. We loved finding all of the different ways we could complete the circuit to light the bulb. Next week, we will use this technical knowledge to light a bulb in our own Yorkshire nightlight in DT.
Lots on next week!
Wednesday: cycling - children need their own bike and a helmet. We also have swimming as normal!
Thursday: PE as normal.
Friday: cross country - come in PE kits, bring a spare pair of shoes incase it is muddy.
Our focus for our computing lessons this half term is creating an animation. We have practised creating short films using the imotion app and drawings on our whiteboard. We also watched a behind the scenes clip of how Wallace and Gromit are brought to life using stop motion animation. Next week we will progress to creating our own plasticine characters and begin to animate them.
This week, we have created simple circuits using wires, batteries, motors, bulbs and buzzers. We all successfully made a bulb lights up and a piece of paper spin on the motor. Next week, we will look at conductors and insulators and how these would affect our circuits.
The sun came out this afternoon and we enjoyed a lovely picnic together to celebrate the King's coronation. Have a nice weekend celebrating!
Today we finally had the chance to set free our inner Stone Age person! We set alight our own fires and wrapped bread dough around sticks to cook ourselves a meal. We practised our weaving skills using wool and collected flowers and leaves to intertwine with our creations. To create our 'weapons', we attempted to carve soap into spear heads. Miss Foster scattered berries over the floor which we collected and mushed into paint to create our cave art. Finally, we created shelters to sleep in after such a busy day. I'm certain this tribe would survive in the Stone Age!
Check out all of the pictures on our class page on the school website.
We have had a fun filled first week back in school!
Throughout our English lessons, we have started to read and examine the story The Iron Man. To help us to develop our descriptive language skills, we have created poems to describe parts of the setting using personification. They were all beautifully written!
Well done to the children who took part in the skipping competition. They all showed great sportsmanship and determination during the event. I still can't believe there are so many different types of skip!
Reminers for next week:
Tuesday - Stone Age Day - please wear long trousers and shoes appropriate for outdoors (maybe bring wellies if it wet under foot!)
Wednesday - swimming restarts
In LKS2, we have our Stone Age days coming up! This will be a chance to recap all of the facts and significant events we covered in our Stone Age topic, as well experience a day in the life of a Stone Age person.
Children will need to wear long trousers as we will be making fires and shoes appropriate for wearing in the meadow. Outdoor PE kit would be best!
Owls - Friday 21st April
Peacocks - Monday 24th April
Nightingales - Tuesday 25th April
Just a reminder that there is no swimming this week. The children that were selected do have the skipping competition on Wednesday so will need to come in PE kits.
Swimming will restart next week.
To finish an action packed term, we have had a fun filled week in Nightingales class.
During our science lessons, we have designed and carried out our own investigations using magnets. Some of us decided to test the effectiveness of a magnet in water. We have also been looking at the real world uses of magnets such as maglev trains in Japan.
To go alongside our amazing Abbarella shows, we have written a newspaper article about our dress rehearsal. This involved us acting as reporters and interviewing our friends and teachers about their opinions. We finished publishing these today and can't wait for the parents to read them in our topic books.
What a brilliant term this has been with story telling projects, Lineham farm and our Abbarella spectacular! Thanks again to all parents and carers for your continued support.
Next half term our PE days are Wednesday (swimming) and Thursday.
We had our final rehearsal behind closed doors today - our dress rehearsal in front of the school will be Tuesday, and the big performances are on Wednesday and Thursday night. You will have received a letter last week letting you know drop off and pick up details.
In our history lessons, we have looked at the changes that took place in the change from the Neolithic period to the Bronze Age. We examined different tools and debated whether stone or bronze weapons would have been more effective.
We have also been publishing our Stone Age setting descriptions in a pop up book. They are looking beautiful and the children are very proud of their writing.
Next week:
Tuesday is the dress rehearsal in front of the rest of the school (during the normal school day).
Wednesday is the Easter egg hunt! Children need to bring a pound and an Easter egg. NO SWIMMING as it is the last day of term but we will be doing PE so please come in PE kits. Performance after school.
Thursday we have our second performance after school.
Friday is the Interhouse cross country competition - children need to come into school in PE kits with a change of footwear. It is also the last day of term!
Year four have had a fab time so far and are currently on night walk or chilling in the games room. Hot chocolate time soon!
We have arrived at Lineham Farm and are organising our rooms and groups.
What a wonderful World Book Day we have had!
This morning, Mr Allen and Mrs Hayward read us the start of some stories to peak our interest in new authors and books they enjoyed as children.
We then presented and performed our projects to one another. We were amazed by the variety of ways the children chose to present their projects - from cakes to quizzes, book reviews to works of art. The children's passion for the topic was really evident and they stood up confidently to teach their peers about it.
Enjoy the picture of us all in costume! Hope you have a restful weekend in preparation for Lineham Farm on Monday.
Our Stone Age role play area has opened this week! We use this space to develop our knowledge about our topic and it promotes our speaking and listening skills. It didn’t take long for us to find our inner cave man!
Your child will have brought home permission slips for Lineham farm this week - please can these forms be completed and returned to us in class or to the office.
Also a reminder that children should be accessing TTRockstars for 10 minutes at least 3 times a week to support them in preparing for the times table check in June.
We have had a lovely relaxing afternoon copying and redesigning the front cover of our favourite books. We took our time making a detailed sketch before adding colour with watercolour paints and defining using black fine liners. We are all so proud of our final products!
