Welcome to the Robin Class page
Robin class has 15 Year 2 children and 15 Year 1 children.
The Robin team are:
Miss Stevens – Class Teacher
Miss Jackson – Teaching Assistant
Our topics this year are:
Autumn Term - Space
Spring Term - Castles and Spring & Growth
Summer Term - Oceans and Seas
Please download the relevant 'Home School Links' document at the bottom of this page in order to find out more information about this term's topic and any related visits or visitors.
Our PE days are Mondays and Tuesdays, so children need to come to school dressed in their PE kits on these days.
Each week, children will be given two new reading books to share with you at home and a set of spellings uploaded to Seesaw. Please support your child to learn their spellings prior to the spelling quiz which will take place on Mondays.
The children in Robin class have settled in very well during the start of this Autumn term. It has been a pleasure getting to know such lovely, engaging children and watching them build relationships with each other and grow confidence in exploring their classroom.
We have started our ‘Space’ topic and during the term we will be looking forward to a visit from 'The Wonderdome' planetarium!
During October half term, we would like children to work with their families to make a model space vehicle such as a rocket or moon buggy! The vehicle can be made using any material you would like for example recycled boxes, clay, fabric, Lego etc. We are looking forward to seeing all your fantastic creations and hearing about how they were made!
If you have any further questions, please feel free to contact me via the school office and I will get back to you.
Thank you for your continued support
Miss Stevens
We have come to the end of our 'Spring and Growth' topic and hopefully all the children's broad bean plant made it home safely yesterday. The children are excited to plant their beans in the garden or pots at home and see how big they get!
Year 2 children have also brought home some practice arithmetic questions to complete if you have time over the Easter holidays.
Next term, Robin PE days will be Mondays and Thursdays. We will also have to change the day we go through the year 2 homework books questions from Thursdays to Tuesdays.
Have a fantastic Easter!
We have had another busy week in Robin class learning all about directions such as forwards, backwards, left, right, half turns, quarter turns, clockwise and anti-clockwise. Maybe you can have fun at the weekend directing each other to places and objects around the house or garden?
We have been reading 'Jack and the Beanstalk' in our English lessons and all the children have done a fantastic job of re-telling the story in their neatest handwriting, using lots of adjectives.
I hope you all enjoyed the snow on Friday and built some great snowmen! We had a busy week in Robin class, planting our own bean seeds and learning about fractions by making toast and cutting it into halves and quarters.
Robin class have been learning about instruction writing this week. We started by making some delicious jam tarts and then wrote a set of instuctions explaining how to make them.
Also, just a reminder to book your parents' evening appointment online. You should have recieved an email with a link to follow. If you have any problems, please ring the school office.
Have a great weekend.
Thank you to the parents that have volunteered to accompany us on our trip to Skipton Castle. I am still looking for one more person to come with Robin class if you can possibly spare the time.
Also, please can children bring in any spare shoe boxes and cardboard tubes (e.g. kitchen roll / wrapping paper tubes - not loo rolls) to help us with our castle making in a couple of weeks.
Thank you
Miss Stevens
Just a couple of reminders:
Thank you
Miss Stevens
We have been learning to tell the time to the hour and half hour this week. Hopefully your children will be able to keep you updated with the time over the Christmas holidays. Year 2 children will be learning quarter past, quarter to and 5 minute intervals later in the year, so do feel free to practice at home especially if Santa brings watches or bedroom clocks.
Our topic next term is ‘Castles’. All the children will be making their own shoe box castle with a winding drawbridge. Please can you keep any shoeboxes and cardboard tubes from wrapping paper or kitchen rolls (no toilet roll tubes please for hygiene reasons), and bring them into school in January.
And finally, thank you for all your lovely Christmas cards and gifts. Miss Jackson and I would like to wish you all a very happy Christmas.
Thank you
Miss Stevens
We found out that astronauts sometimes eat tortilla wraps in space as they don’t make crumbs and they need to include a sticky filling so the other ingredients don’t go floating around the space station. Children designed their own healthy ‘Space’ wraps and carefully chopped and grated different vegetables for their fillings. They chose hummus or cream cheese as the ‘sticky’ part. Well done Robins!
Also, just a reminder that it is our class Christmas party on Tuesday 13th December. Children can come to school dressed in their party clothes and please check your child’s book bag for their party invitation which says the food contribution that we would like them to bring.
Thank you
Miss Stevens
I apologise for the typing error on the front of the programme. I have corrected it and have printed new programmes for tomorrow’s show. For those that bought a programme today, I have left a set of corrected programmes at the school office. If you would like a replacement, please pop to the office and pick one up.
Thank you
Miss Stevens
